So in the true spirit of ultimate procrastination, I've decided to fully get into and start up this business. I say ultimate procrastination because I've had two law exams to study for (one of which finished on Monday, still have one on Friday though), so naturally my brain's said "now would be a great time to do all this stuff". As I write this I'm listening to a lecture on Torts and writing notes, multi-tasking!
To start off, I'm going to run through how I've personally started up, keeping in mind that I'm not fully done yet, so I might update this in another post in a few months.
So at first I joined some groups on Facebook that specialise in special effects makeup as well as some creative networks to take a look at what others were doing. Especially on the creative networks I saw people occasionally putting out calls for graphic designers to help create their logos, websites and business cards, as well as asking for the best places to print them out in Australia.
Unfortunately, my drawing and designing abilities are close to zilch so for my logo and business card designs I found a website called Studio Envato where I found zlaws who took on board my suggestions and helped create my colourful logo, business cards, letterhead and a funky envelope design, so I'm very grateful to him for that and he has significantly more designing talent than I do.
While he was doing that I was working on this website after fishing around on Google for some good website builders, I went with Weebly and it has yet to let me down, which is sweet. I was getting some pictures together and basic colour designs to really get this under-way.
Next step was to print out the business cards and get them on display, and I'm going to figure out how Adobe Illustrator works so I can attempt to make some flyers... we'll see how that goes.
Naturally, if you have the ability to design things yourself, this will be cheaper, but since I didn't have that ability and wanted things to look decent I did fork out a bit to get this done. So you do need to be prepared to spend the money on these things, and if you keep at it then you should make that back.
If there are any questions so far feel free to contact me through my contact page under 'non-business inquiries' and I'll try to help with what knowledge I have :)
Over and Out.
